4/23/10

1. This photograph can be found on google images.

2. Shelton Muller took this picture.

3. I do not know exactly when the photograph was taken but Muller wrote a tutorial about it on January 24, 2007.

4. My favorite apect of this photograph is that it was taken in nature. I love the calmness of the water and the skies. It seems so organic. Nothing was planned to take this photograph, the scenary is beautiful just the way it is. I really like the depth of this photograph it seem that it goes on for miles. Another one of my favorite things is the reflection of the moutain in the calm lake. It makes the highest of peeks seem reachable because it is seen at the ground level. From the peek you see the clouds which give the feeling of movement throughout the picture. Overall I really like this photograph because of all its natural beauty.

5. Natural lighting is used in this photograph. It gives the piture high contrast because of the fact that in nature there are so many colors, some dark and some light which are emphasised by natural lighting. The overall feeling that the lighting gives the picture is subtle, even with the high contrast of hues. With any other lighting the message of the picture would not be as affective. If this picture where taken at high noon, the lighting would be more harsh and it would have taken the calmness out of the picture.

6. The emphasis of this photograph, I believe is the mountain. The photographer took this picture at an angle where the log in the lake points directly at the mountain drawing your eye there and creating emphasis, so the technique of using leading lines is captured in this photo. Another technique used is the sense of movement in the clouds. It makes the eye look way out in the distance which is another element called space, the illusion of depth or dimension. Space is used although it is not much of an illusion. This photograph probably does range over a large area, but with this element it make the photograph seem that it goes on for miles. As I mentioned before there are many different colors which really add to the overall composition of the photograph.

7. I think the photographer is trying to communicate the natural beauty found in nature. This relates to our last unit of Zen photography, which deals in the idea that beauty is found everywhere. How appropiate that today is earth day. This is a picture that shows the need to perserve the earth we live on. This photograph communicate the absolute escape of any stresses in your life. If you look far enough into the mountains in the distance you can almost feel like your in the picture. I think the message of this picture succesfully comes across when you view it that is probably why I like it so much.
